Q. How can I run pre- and post-backup scripts with Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007?
March 17, 2008
A. A. DPM 2007 can run a pre-synchronization-process script and a post-synchronization script.
In the following example, I run a pre-synchronization script to suspend any running VMs, and a post-synchronization script to resume VM operation. To enable the pre- and post-backup scripts, edit the ScriptingConfig.xml file found in the Program FilesMicrosoft Data Protection ManagerDPMScripting protected server folder, and add a DatasourceScriptConfig entry for each data source that requires a pre- or post-backup script. DataSourceName is the volume for file data sources. The application data-source name form should be "InstanceDatabase" for Microsoft SQL Server and "Storage group name" for Microsoft Exchange. Don't use quotes with the script path and name; otherwise, the computer will read the XML code as malformed and it won’t function.
