JSI Tip 9366. Windows Server 2003 NTBackup errors when you backup the system state and Exchange Server 2003 information store in the same backup?

When you backup the system state and the Exchange Server 2003 information store in the same backup, NTBackup.exe errors with Application event log entry:

This behavior occurs because the Volume Shadow Copy service places Exchange Server 2003 in a 'backup in progress' state, causing the Exchange Server 2003 online backup streaming API to fail to bind to the databases.

To workaround this behavior, back up the system state and the Exchange Server 2003 information store using separate backup .BKF files.
