At Microsoft TechEd, I spoke with Quest Software’s John Maxwell, vice president of product management, about his company’s NetVault FastRecover, an excellent continuous data protection (CDP) solution that provides real-time backup and instant recovery of mission-critical data. NetVault FastRecover can enhance your existing backup practices with these capabilities with several important features.

Key to NetVault FastRecover is its patented FlashRestore technology, which makes Exchange Server, SQL Server, and Windows file system data available for use in seconds. I was particularly impressed with the product’s point-in-time recovery capability, which enables the instant availability of restored data as the user requires it, letting the remainder of the restoration process to continue in the background. Maxwell likened the capability to a time machine. Also fascinating is the products easy point-and-click granular recovery feature.

Whereas some organizations have trouble integrating CDP solutions into their infrastructure, FastRecover’s real-time backup and instant recovery capabilities line up seamlessly with not only Quest’s NetVault Backup but also many third-party solutions.

NetVault FastRecover protects Exchange 2010, 2007, and 2003; and SQL Server 2012, 2008, 2005, and 2000. New to the product is support for Windows 7.
