Dell Technologies World 2022 Takes on Data Challenges
In a return to the in-person event format, Dell Technologies World showcased a new managed cyber recovery service and technology partnership with Snowflake.
Dell Technologies World 2022 kicked off today in Las Vegas with new offerings to tackle a range of modern challenges – namely those surrounding data, security, and multi-cloud environments.
In a sweeping keynote address, Dell Technologies CEO and chairman Michael Dell delved into a discussion of data, specifically about democratized, distributed data across on-premises systems, public and private clouds, and the edge. He argued that recent advancements in AI and in the power of edge devices have made it possible to transform vertical industries such as healthcare and financial services.
The ecosystems involved in these advancements must be API-driven and recruit more developers, Dell said. In terms of ecosystem development, he touted Dell Technologies’ salesforce of 30,000 strong as well as an army of about 200,000 partners worldwide.
Dell Apex Cyber Recovery Service
Dell noted that as data-fueled opportunities have emerged, so too have ways in which cyberattacks can drain organizations of time and resources. To that end, Dell Technologies unveiled a managed cyber recovery service. The new offering, Dell Apex Cyber Recovery Service, expands the vendor’s Apex infrastructure-as-a-service portfolio and aims to help organizations bounce back from cyberattacks. Dell Apex Cyber Recovery Service is currently available in the U.S., with broader availability planned for later this year.
In addition, Dell Technologies said it will expand its public cloud cyber recovering offerings for multi-cloud environments: Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for Microsoft Azure and CyberSense for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for AWS. The two services will be globally available in the second half of 2022, the vendor said.
Dell Technologies Partners with Snowflake
Dell Technologies co-chief operating officer Chuck Whitten, who joined the company in August, represented Dell on stage for the first time. Whitten pointed to what he called two megatrends: data and “multi-cloud by design.” In terms of the “multi-cloud by design” megatrend, Whitten said most enterprise organizations are “multi-cloud by default.” They need to plan for a new world of agility and customer choice from the outset.
Whitten made several announcements about expanded partnerships between Dell Technologies and AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, VMware, and Red Hat. However, it was an announcement of a partnership with data warehousing company Snowflake that received the most notable reaction from Dell Technologies World 2022 attendees.
Under the new alliance, Dell Technologies and Snowflake will collaborate on integrating Dell on-premises storage systems with Snowflake Data Cloud. The alliance aims to equip customers with more flexibility in multi-cloud environments, an improved ability to meet data sovereignty requirements, and easier use of their data, according to Dell Technologies.
