Will Nano Server have fewer patches than Server Core?

Q. Will Nano Server have less patches than Server Core?

A. Microsoft have changed how patches are delivered with Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 removing the large number of separate patches delivered each month in favor of a single, monthly cumulative update. While Nano Server has a much smaller footprint and while less individual fixes and updates will apply to Nano, because of the single cumulative update approach it is likely that Nano Server will still require the cumulative update each month and therefore Nano Server and Server Core will require the same number of patches each month: 1, the cumulative update. That Nano Server does bring over Server Core (and even more so over the Desktop Experience deployment) is a smaller footprint, faster provisioning and faster reboots.
