VDI for VIPs: Should the Corner Office Be Virtualized?
Do the highest ranking people get their own dedicated PCs while the call center gets virtual desktops? Not any more, says one expert.

The conventional wisdom about desktop computing in the enterprise used to be that the more important the person, the more they deserved their own dedicated physical machine, if only for the ego gratification they'd get in knowing they weren't being forced to toil away on the same systems dispensed to the hoi polloi. That's why top executives often still had their own personal PCs, even after the rest of the organization had switched to virtual desktops.
But is that really the case? A recent essay says no, and that your company's VIPs are in fact best served by VDI.
The argument goes like this. "VIPs usually have needs that most employees within the organization may not have. They may need apps and resources that others don’t utilize. Usually, these users may require a more personalized computing environment, making a server-based desktop environment problematic."
Which suggests that the easiest way to keep someone in a C-suite happy is with a virtual machine, carefully tended to by someone in the IT department.
Concludes the writer, "Your VIPs may be the smallest group in your organization, but will be the most vocal group of users and setting them up with a VDI desktop will go a long way to keeping them happy."
Which is always a good thing.
