Q. How can I confirm that my Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) access from a node is using Direct Access or Redirected Access?

A. The most definitive way to check on the type of access from a cluster node accessing a CSV is to look at the performance counters related to CSV that have counters for direct and redirected access.

On the Add Counters dialog of Performance Monitor, access the Cluster Shared Volumes object type, select the CSV you wish to monitor and you can add counters for IO Writes and Redirected IO Writes. You can also add the same counters around Read. These counters will give you the detail on how many of the writes are via direct access and how many are via redirected access, as shown here.
