Microsoft to Detail Its Cloud Progress on October 20 and You Are All Invited

Microsoft took a bit of heat for its recent information showcase for Windows 10 due to only inviting a small, hand-picked group and then not offering to stream it live. The company later made the whole thing available as a replay (watch it HERE), but with the intent of targeting IT Pros with the first Technical Preview of Windows 10, it still didn't sit too well. At least, it didn't initially. Now that the Windows 10 beta has been downloaded and installed across the globe, not very many people are left complaining.

So, it's great to see that Microsoft is stepping up its live event game by providing a public stream for an upcoming Cloud announcement.

Here's the details:

What:    A discussion about what is ahead for Microsoft’s cloud for business. 

When:   Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. PDT.

Who:     Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft

               Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise

Where: The event will be streamed live via webcast on the Microsoft News Center.

Microsoft rarely initiates an event like this without some big announcements. I'm told that both Nadella and Guthrie will deliver a sort of "State of the Union" for Microsoft's Cloud properties, talking about current investments and future direction, and then including customer use cases. But, again, this can all be done in a blog post, which Guthrie is now famous for delivering on a regular basis, including meaty updates. Reading the tea leaves, I fully expect more than just a "Where are we now?" event.
