Legato Completes Vinca Acquisition

Legato Systems completed its $94 million acquisition of Vinca Corp. Adding significant new OEM relationships with IBM, Novell, and Seagate/Veritas, the acquisition provides Legato Systems an extensive channel operation of more than 300 Vinca-certified partners, 2700 Vinca-certified engineers, new engineering expertise centers, 55,000 licenses, and 20,000 customers worldwide.The addition of Vinca's StandbyServer products, with versions for Windows NT, NetWare, and OS/2, complements Legato Systems' products, including Legato FullTime Cluster and FullTime Data for NT and UNIX, Legato NetWorker for NT, UNIX and NetWare, and Legato GEMS for distributed management. Legato Systems also will incorporate Vinca's SnapShotServer technology for online backup, complementing many of Legato's existing software products."This acquisition is the latest step in fulfilling Legato's aggressive road map for delivering an integrated portfolio of storage management and data availability products .," says Jim Chappell, Legato Systems' business development vice president.Legato Systems now has about 1100 employees and 45 offices in 16 countries.
