January 29, 2002
A. You can use the modem properties to turn the modem speaker on or off. Alternatively, you can use a user initialization string to adjust this setting by performing the following steps:
Start the Phone and Modem Options Control Panel applet (go toStart, Settings, Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options).
Select the Modems tab.
Select the modem, and click Properties.
Select the Advanced tab.
Add one of the options from the table below to the initialization string, and click OK.
Close the Control Panel applet.
Setting | Effect |
---|---|
L0 | Selects the lowest speaker volume |
L1 | Selects a low speaker volume |
L2 | Selects medium speaker volume |
L3 | Selects high speaker volume |
M0 | Disables the speaker so that it's always off |
M1 | Enables the speaker when the modem is establishing a call, but disables the speaker after the modem detects the carrier |
M2 | Enables the speaker so that it's always on |
M3 | Disables the speaker when dialing the modem and receiving the carrier signal, but enables the speaker when the modem is answering a call |
