EMC has extended its NetWin family of Network Attached Storage (NAS) products with a new Windows-based entry-level NAS gateway for small and midsized businesses. The new NetWin 110 targets customers who want to implement NAS for the first time or inexpensively expand current storage area networks (SANs) to perform NAS functions. The product is based on the Windows Storage Server 2003 platform. "Customers of all sizes have realized that islands of non-networked storage can be cost-effectively consolidated. EMC's new NetWin 110 Gateway is the most economical way for them to get control of all of their information and get the largest return on their existing storage investment," said David Donatelli, EMC executive vice president of storage platforms operations.
The NetWin 110 with EMC CLARiiON storage starts at $6100. The product will be available in both direct-attached and gateway configurations and will include all the features available in the Windows Storage Server platform. These features include Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), Microsoft Virtual Disk Service (VDS), and file and print services as well as Microsoft Exchange Server storage support. The system is available exclusively through authorized EMC distributors.
