Developer Express (DevExpress), a provider of software development and productivity tools for .NET developers, wasted no time showing its commitment to supporting Microsoft's next-generation IDE and touch computing: At last week's BUILD conference, DevExpress announced that its CodeRush IDE productivity and refactoring toolset will support Visual Studio 11 and that the upcoming release of DXperience v2011 vol 2 will include seven WinForms controls that support touch computing.

At BUILD 2011 on September 14, Microsoft's Jason Zander announced the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview and Team Foundation Server Preview , which are now generally available for download.

DevExpress expects to ship CodeRush for Visual Studio 11 Preview by the end of September. About the product, Mark Miller, senior scientist at DevExpress, said: "All features are fully functional, from color swatch highlighting in the editor to code templates to consume-first declaration. This is a testament to the good design of the Visual Studio 11 IDE as well to the hard work of developers on the CodeRush team. We are committed now, as we have always been, to ensuring developers have near-instantaneous access to CodeRush builds for every Visual Studio release, including betas and pre-release drops."

DXperience v2011 vol 2, scheduled for release in Q4 2011, will introduce touch support for the following controls:

WinForms Grid
WinForms Ribbon Bar
WinForms Outlook Style Navigation Bar
WinForms Charting
WinForms Data Editors Library
WinForms Tree-List
WinForms RichEdit

"Touch support is essential to software developers targeting non-traditional PC devices such as the Samsung Win8 tablet debuted at BUILD Conference in Anaheim," said Julian Bucknall, chief technology officer at DevExpress. "Although we will direct the appropriate resources to specifically target WinRT, the programming platform for Metro apps, our philosophy is 'Why wait for 8?' We will continue to innovate on the WinForms platform, and touch-gesture support and updated Metro Style Themes is the beginning of our efforts in this regard."
