Perhaps to nobody's surprise, Microsoft Office is the most sought-after tech skill among employers, with over 14,000 current job postings requiring proficiency in the suite.

The finding comes from a survey conducted by system design interview prep experts System Design School, which analyzed job listings on Glassdoor to determine the most mentioned tech-specific skills.

Following Microsoft Office, software troubleshooting emerged as the second most in-demand skill, appearing in 5,981 job posts. Microsoft Excel ranked third, required in 5,137 job listings. Rounding out the top 10, Active Directory was mentioned in 3,330 job posts.

The impetus behind the study was to identify the most in-demand tech skills that employers are seeking in the current job market.

By analyzing job listings on Glassdoor, the research aimed to provide insights into the specific technical skills essential for professionals to enhance their employability and career growth.

The information gained could be particularly useful for individuals starting their careers or looking to advance, as it highlights the skills that can significantly improve job prospects by aligning with industry trends.

The study also underscores the importance of staying informed about market demands to remain competitive in a continuously evolving tech landscape.

Despite the widespread assumption that proficiency in Office is a given for most professionals, its top ranking underscores its continued importance and essential role across various industries and job functions.

The survey results indicate fundamental productivity software skills remain critical for employability, even in a tech-driven job market, and employers aren't assuming that all jobseekers are skilled in Microsoft Office.

Skills in AI and machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and DevOps are expected to become increasingly important as these technologies advance.

Agile methodologies and project management are also expected to remain relevant, evolving with new tools, while data analytics and visualization will continue to be crucial.
