New Tool to Assess Your On-Premises Environment for a Move to Microsoft Azure

If you're considering moving your entire on-premises infrastructure, or pieces of it, (and who isn't, right? <--snarky reply) it helps to have a full assessment of the current, working environment for planning purposes. Obviously, Microsoft wants your software, servers, services, and databases running embedded deep in its Microsoft Azure construct, so why not release a tool to help make the migration easier?

Well, they have.

The Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine Readiness Assessment tool has released and is able to inspect your environment and report back with suggestive actions for relinquishing control over your technology empire to Microsoft. The Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine Readiness Assessment tool will scan both non-virtualized and virtualized assets and provide a report on Active Directory, SQL, and SharePoint migrations.

The tool can be run from the local computer, or run directly on the server needing assessed. Reports are saved to the local Documents folder where they ca be retrieve and reviewed. The tool requires administrative rights (Enterprise Admin for AD, SysAdmin for SQL Server, Admin for SharePoint) and unrestricted network access (ports, firewalls, WMI, registry, RPC, etc.).

The new tool can be downloaded from here: Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine Readiness Assessment
