Basic Pricing Tier for Microsoft Azure Web Sites Set

With the intent to offer some high-end features of Microsoft Azure to smaller-sized customers for a more reasonable cost, Microsoft has unveiled the basic pricing level promised at the end of March 2014.

Some of the pieces of Azure Web Sites offered at the new cost structure are:

  • Three instances of dedicated Virtual Machines

  • SSL support

  • Scheduled Jobs

  • Endpoint Monitoring

  • 10GB of storage

  • 350 Web Sockets per website

  • 99.9% SLA

Pricing ranges from around $56 per month for 1 CPU core with 1.75GB of memory to $224 per month for 4 CPU cores and 7GB of memory.

The Basic tier inserts into the existing options of Free, Shared, and Standard. Basic is to be considered for small and medium sized web sites, while the Standard is for medium to very large web sites.

Existing users can alter the currently subscribed tier by modifying the Web Hosting Plan in the Full Azure Portal. The pricing tier is modified through the SCALE tab in the portal.
