Take a trip down malware memory lane with Archive.org's Malware Museum

Ever pine for the good old days, where instead of holding all your data for Bitcoin ransom or running your machine as part of a bot network, viruses had a slightly more artistic vision?

You can now relieve those not-quite-glory days thank to Archive.org and Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer at F-Secure.

They've created the Malware Museum, a collection of neutered DOS virii. The collection includes classics like Skynet and Redcode, and the rather soothing Marine virus which I had never heard of (picture above). Each of the defanged virii runs on an emulator right in your browser, no floppy disks required.

Also, if you haven't seen it, Hypponen did a very good, short documentary a few years ago on Brain, the first computer virus, in which he interviews the creators. Highly enjoyable look at the start of what would turn into a nasty, never-ending plague for computer professionals.
