Use Desktop Background on Start Screen

Q: How do I configure my desktop background to be used on my Windows 8.1 Start Screen?

A: Windows 8.1 enables greater flexibility in the background for Windows 8.1 Start Screen. While many new backgrounds are included (including some animated ones), whatever background is configured for the desktop can be used for the Start Screen. This can be enabled in one of two ways.

  1. On the Start Screen open the Settings charm.

  2. Click Personalize.

  3. Select the desktop background available in the list.

The other way is via the desktop.

  1. Right-click the Task Bar and select Properties.

  2. Select the Navigation tab.

  3. Under the Start Screen area check the Show my desktop background on Start.

  4. Click OK.
