Q: I want to deploy Azure Site Recovery with System Center Virtual Machine Manager; is there a certain Update Rollup level required?

A: Azure Site Recovery uses several different technologies (channels) to enable replication (such as Hyper-V Replica and InMage Scout). For an on-premises infrastructure, the orchestration is enabled through System Center Virtual Machine Manager—specifically System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 for Azure Site Recovery with Azure protection.

Microsoft details the exact requirements for Azure Site Recovery deployment on its Azure site; however, there's no mention of the specific Update Rollup levels required. At the time this FAQ was posted, the Azure Site Recovery Provider installed on System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 assumes Update Rollup 2 is present. However, the best practice is to always install the latest Update Rollup that's available because the Update Rollups frequently contain fixes that can be critical to Azure Site Recovery functioning properly.
