Understanding Big Data and NoSQL Databases

View On-Demand

NoSQL databases have emerged as important new technologies for IT. In an enterprise landscape awash in data, non-relational databases enable better insights and sharper analysis. In this presentation you’ll get an overview of the types of data issues that businesses face today; see the role of relational databases and how they are unable to address all of the challenges big data presents to the enterprise; and learn how organizations like Facebook, Yahoo, Google, and Amazon use NoSQL to turn data into highly valuable, real-time business intelligence.

We will take a deeper look at one of the major differences between SQL and NoSQL DBs – storing unstructured data – and the need to apply some structure when it comes to actually using the data. Various solutions exist to help and we’ll demonstrate how it all starts by getting the data model right and the patterns that can help to avoid common traps such as hot spots and problems with concurrent access. Finally, we’ll highlight the new SQL-like languages, such as N1QL (pronounced “nickel”), that allow us to query semi-structured data in a more familiar way.
