Traffic Manager HTTPS Checking
Learn the certificate requirements for HTTPS monitoring for Azure Traffic Manager.
August 21, 2014
Q: If I'm using Azure Traffic Manager and it's using HTTPS for monitoring, does the certificate need a subject alternative name for the Azure cloud service name?
A: Azure Traffic Manager can monitor many endpoints, including cloud service endpoints using HTTP or HTTPS. The service being provided is typically accessed by end users as a different name, such as www.savilltech.com, rather than the name of Azure Cloud Services—which would typically create a certificate warning if the name of the cloud service were used for access via HTTPS. This doesn't affect Azure Traffic Manager monitoring because the monitor only checks for a response and omits the certificate/trust chain validations.
