Storage provider StorTrends, from American Megatrends announced the new line of 3600i all-flash SAN arrays at CeBIT 2015 in Germany. StorTrends says the new 3600i arrays are designed for performance-intensive applications, with pricing models starting at 50 cents per gigabyte.

StorTrends aims to make the 3600i line more affordable for high-transaction databases and virtual desktop (VDI) workloads, noting that it also leverages the performance of flash storage with deduplication, compression and enlift caching technology to further enhance the solution. Architected from the ground up the company says the 3600i line is founded on over 100 storage patents. StorTrends states that performance is optimized by using two different types of SSDs - one designed for write performance and the other designed for read performance.

Starting at $24,999 the two models in the product line come in a variety of flash drive and capacity configurations, 64GB or 192GB of memory, and feature Intel Xeon E5620 processors in two or four quad core configurations, according to the company. The 3600i can scale up to 64 terabytes and the 3610i up to 256 terabytes.

Highlighting its iDATA storage analysis tool for demonstrating the performance enhancements of an all-flash array, Director of the StorTrends Division at American Megatrends Justin Bagby said that it "will provide you with an estimated dedupe ratio while also telling you how much active data versus cold data you have within your environment. This will allow you and your team to plan appropriately and avoid being over-or-under sold by a vendor."
