Q: I created a Storage Space with Windows PE 5, but I get an error that it's unrecognized when I try to read it from Windows Server 2012; why?

A: Windows PE 5 is based on Windows Server 2012 R2, which essentially means you're creating a Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Space and then trying to read it from Windows Server 2012, which isn't possible. If you want to use Windows PE to create a Storage Space, you need to use Windows PE 4.0, which is based on Windows Server 2012.
