Q: I'm using Skype, but I can't see my Messenger contacts, why?
A: Microsoft discontinued Messenger in favor of using Skype. Many users already had a separate Skype account and were signing in with their Skype account.
Within Skype, you can link or merge your Skype account to your Microsoft account. However, to actually use your Messenger contacts, you need to do the following:
Install version 6.0 of Skype or later.
Sign in with your Live ID instead of Skype ID (because they are linked, your phone functionality will still work even when signed in with Live ID).
