Resource: Taking Your App to the Cloud with Azure and Visual Studio 2017

One area that Microsoft has done a lot of integration is their developer tools and the core program in that collection is Visual Studio.

They have made it nearly seamless for developers to get their apps in the right format so that they can be submitted to Windows Store or put into production in the case of Line of Business or web apps.

Of course, one place that Microsoft wants you to consider for hosting your apps is in Microsoft Azure the companies quickly expanding cloud service.

In a new post over on the Visual Studio Blog, Brian Moore the Senior Program Manager for Azure Tools is sharing details about publishing to Azure directly from within Visual Studio 2017.

The process is so streamlined that when you choose to publish your work to Azure it will also walk you through the process of creating new resources for the app or selecting your current Azure resources for it to use.

They have provided a good overview of the various resources at your disposal on Azure for your app's hosting:

-- Virtual Machines

-- App Service

-- Service Fabric

-- Docker & Containers

In addition there is information about setting up a pipeline between your app and Azure plus options to extend your app with Azure Connected Services.

You can read all the details over on the Visual Studio blog.

I served for 29 plus years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in November 2011. My work background in the Navy was telecommunications related so my hobby of computers fit well with what I did for the Navy. I consider myself a tech geek and enjoy most things in that arena.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
