A reader wrote to say he'd read a tip on a Microsoft web page about implementing location-aware printing in Windows 7. His desktop computer can log onto two separate networks; one network that is used exclusively for the accounting department, and another for general corporate work. He can't find the Manage Default Printers command in the Devices and Printers page of Control Panel that would let him automatically print to a specific default printer for each network. He's running Windows 7 Premium, which supports this feature. Can you figure out why he can't set up this feature?

How to Play

Solve this month's UPDATE challenge, and you might win a prize! Email your solution (don't use an attachment) to [email protected] by May 31. You MUST include your full name, street mailing address (no P.O. Boxes), and a telephone number in the body text of your e-mail (no embedded graphics or attached datafiles). Without that information, we can't send you a prize if you win, so your answer is eliminated, even if it’s correct.

I choose winners at random from the pool of correct entries. I’m a sucker for humor and originality, and a cleverly written correct answer gets an extra chance.

Because I receive so many entries each month, I can't reply to respondents, and I never respond to a request for an email receipt. Look for the solutions to this month's problem here next month.

April 2011 Reader Challenge Winner

Congratulations to Jenifer D. Sill of Cape May Court House NJ, the winner of our April 2011 Reader Challenge. The prize is a copy of Windows 7 Administrator's Pocket Consultant from O'Reilly Media (www.ora.com).

We had a slew of wonderful, funny, interesting, correct answers that couldn't be added to the "Pool of Correct Answers" from which we select a winner because the message didn't include the contact information we require (see the instructions above).
