Q: Is the VM Generation ID capability available only in Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V? What about ESX and XenServer?
VM Generation ID in Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V could well appear soon in VMware's products.

A: At the time of writing, only Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V has the VM Generation ID capability. However, the details have been shared with other hypervisor vendors, including VMware, to enable them to implement this capability as part of a future version of update to their products. The VM Generation ID capability is a crucial one, and the more hypervisors that support it, the better.
