Drones with frickin’ lasers on their heads
Who doesn’t think R2-D2 is cute? That little droid is the puppy of spaceships. What is less cute and a whole lot scarier are drones with laser cannons.
Boeing has just developed a laser canon that can slice through and destroy just about anything. According to WIRED:
Depending on the target’s speed and distance, Boeing’s weapon can fire its laser within an inch or two of what it wants to hit. Because the laser moves at the speed of light, it’s easier to be precise—there’s no need to lead the target.
In the future, these drones could be used to take down planes, helicopters and tanks. They will be available for use by our government in less than two years.
Fish: The Next Generation
Do you see a theme here? I hope so.
Soon, you might have robotic fish swimming around in your stomach. If that sounds gross, that’s because it is, but also a game changer in terms of the advancement of internal medicine.
Researchers at the University of San Diego have figured out a way to 3-D print microscopic fish that could be used in medical applications. Scientists believe that these nano robots could swim through our blood stream in order to deliver drugs to specific body parts.
Tunnel to the Future
Switzerland has just completed the world’s longest tunnel. Why should you care? Motherboard says:
In addition to relieving traffic conditions and shortening travel times, the tunnel will hopefully reduce the amount of harmful emissions that could threaten the Alpine ecosystem.
The tunnel is 35 miles long and is considered a break-though in technology because of its advanced control system and feat of engineering. It’s scheduled to be open for subway traffic in Winter of 2016.
