New Windows Developer Related Content from Microsoft

Last week it looked like the Microsoft Developer team had begun a new process of providing users a recap of each week's developer related news about resources, APIs and other tools that are useful to someone in the Windows stack and it appears that is the case with the release of their latest weekly wrap up.

Here is a summary of those announcements but in the future you can grab them directly from the Building Apps for Windows blog. Just add that site to your blog or RSS reader to stay up to date on the latest developer related news from Microsoft.

New Windows Store submission API capabilities

The Windows Store supports several new features in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update including flighting your app updates to various rings of users for testing purposes.  Recent updates to the app submission API provides two new options for enabling and managing those package rollouts and defining which updates are mandatory for your app users.

New and updated Microsoft IoT Kits

The IoT hardware from Adafruit has received a refresh and you can now get a brand new version of the hardware to use on your builder projects.

Camera APIs with a dash of cloud intelligence in a UWP app (App Dev on Xbox series)

If you are building Universal Windows Platform Apps (UWP) you can take advantage of camera and media capture APIs on any device that includes camera hardware. This includes desktop and mobile devices plus the Xbox One with Kinect.

In addition to those items from the latest weekly summary , there is also updated information about the high DPI scaling improvements that are included in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. The High DPI Scaling Improvements for Desktop Applications and “Mixed Mode” DPI Scaling in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update article explains how you can take advantage of those features for your own UWP apps.

But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.

I served for 29 plus years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in November 2011. My work background in the Navy was telecommunications related so my hobby of computers fit well with what I did for the Navy. I consider myself a tech geek and enjoy most things in that arena.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
