Microsoft Delivers New Australia Azure Regions

Promised during the San Francisco Microsoft Cloud presser last week, a new Australia-based GEO for Azure went live over the weekend, bringing Microsoft's total number of global regions to 19.

The official announcement coincided with TechEd Sydney, and delivered Microsoft's 18th and 19th overall Azure business regions. The new regions rolled out in New South Wales and Victoria.

Like the San Francisco event, the announcement came from Scott Guthrie, Microsoft's Executive Vice President for Cloud + Enterprise. He was joined by Pip Marlow, county managing director at Microsoft.

"We’re adding an Australian accent to our global cloud network," Guthrie stated, adding, "From today, our goal is to create Australia's best and most complete cloud, enabled by world class technology and a world class cloud ecosystem."

In addition the new regions, Microsoft is firmly planted in Australia and plans to utilize over 290,000 people represented as Microsoft Partners to help promote and sell an Australian cloud.
