Microsoft Announces April Intune Updates

We have all seen the pace of updates for various Microsoft products and services on both the consumer and IT Pro sides of their business.

Microsoft's Intune is no exception to that monthly cycle of updates and improvements. The big benefit is that rolling out these updates is very easy because Microsoft Intune is a cloud based services and updates are immediately available to all users once they are live.

Today, over at the Microsoft Intune blog, the team has announced three key updates for the service that are being rolled out to users in its April updates.

  • Block contact sync from Outlook app to device (for iOS): New Mobile Application Management (MAM) controls allow you to prevent a user from syncing Outlook contacts to the native address book on iOS devices, and  provide you with the ability to remove contacts that have already been saved to the native address book when you perform a selective wipe of the device.

  • Conditional Access support for Skype for Business Online: New conditional access policies allow you to restrict access to Skype for Business Online to only managed and compliant iOS and Android devices.

  • Manage Windows Defender on Windows 10 PCs: The Windows 10 general configuration policy now includes settings to manage Windows Defender on enrolled Windows 10 PCs.

According to the team these are not the only updates this month and other enhancements are also being sent out to users.

More details will be available on the What's New in Microsoft Intune webpage in the very near term.

But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.

I served for 29 plus years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in November 2011. My work background in the Navy was telecommunications related so my hobby of computers fit well with what I did for the Navy. I consider myself a tech geek and enjoy most things in that arena.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
