Microsoft and HP Release New BI Appliances

Today, January 19th 2010, Microsoft and HP released three new business appliances as well as announcing that two additional business appliances would be available before the end of the year. Each of these new appliances will come with the operating system and server software preinstalled simplifying their deployment into the enterprise.

Today, January 19th 2010, Microsoft and HP released three new business appliances as well as announcing that two additional business appliances would be available before the end of the year. Each of these new appliances will come with the operating system and server software preinstalled simplifying their deployment into the enterprise. The following appliances were just released:

HP Business Decision Appliance – Targeted toward the mid-market and the enterprise, the HP Business Decision Appliance comes with SQL Server 2008 R2, PowerPivot and SharePoint 2010. Starting at $28,000 this appliance is available immediately and its designed to make it easier to access BI solutions across the organization. HP Enterprise Data Warehouse – Aimed toward enterprises, the HP Enterprise Data Warehouse is HP’s implementation of the SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse. These units are available immediately. They start at  $2 million and they provide massively saleable data warehouse capabilities to the enterprise. HP E5000 Messaging System – The E5000 Messaging System appliance comes with Exchange Server 2010. The E5000 Messaging System is also available immediately and units start at $36,000. Two additional appliances are slated for later this year:

HP Business Data Warehouse Appliance – This appliance is like the HP Enterprise Data Warehouse but it will be targeted toward smaller organizations. It is expected to be available by June 2011

HP Enterprise Database Consolidation Appliance– This appliance is built on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V. It is designed to facilitate database server consolidation and to help customers build their own private cloud. It will have built-in high availability and disaster recovery features.  It is planned to be available in the second half of 2011.
