LastPass Frees Up Multi-Device Access to Your Passwords

If there has been one lesson over the last few years - it is inevitable that at some point your personal info may be involved in a data breach. That breach could be malicious and started by hackers or it could be a disgruntled employee who releases user details in retaliation at their employers.

Whatever the circumstances, protecting your personal data requires vigilance and a solid password plan and not one that uses the same password and username across multiple websites.

I gave that very bad habit up years ago but managing those different usernames and passwords used to be a real challenge. In fact, it was not until I started using a password manager that I was really able to implement my goal of unique passwords on every website that I use these days.

Those passwords are not "1234567" or "ABCDEFG" type passwords either. I am talking about using passwords like "If1$gP08!9O$s@w" for each site to make sure that a breach at one does not put other sites I use at risk.

My password manager of choice over the last couple of years has been LastPass. I have been paying for the premium subscription, which is just $12 per year, that allowed me to sync/access my passwords across multiple devices. In addition, that premium subscription also provides things like family sharing, priority tech support, and 1GB of encrypted file storage.

As of today, LastPass is now offering the unlimited device sync feature that was part of the premium subscription as part of their free tier of services.

This is a great deal and removes the one element of the service that forced people to go premium for that feature alone. As an active LastPass user I can not recommend the service enough and it has wide compatibility with other ecosystems.

To give you an idea - you can get LastPass for these platforms:

  • Windows

  • Mac

  • Linux

LastPass browser extensions are available for these web browsers:

  • Microsoft Edge (via Windows Store)

  • Internet Explorer 11

  • Firefox 2.0+

  • Chrome 18+

  • Safari 5+

  • Opera 11+

  • Maxthon 4.0.3.3000+

Mobile apps are also available for these systems:

  • iOS

  • Android

  • Windows Phone

If you are looking for a solid password manager then LastPass was well worth a look at $12 per year but now with device sync at no cost it is most definitely something you should check out.

But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.
