Recently, we asked Susan to give us a little information about herself. Here's what she shared:

ITDC: Give us a brief introduction to you.

Susan: Susan Bradley, Patch management geek.

ITDC: Describe the sessions you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.

Susan: I'm going to talk about all the changes in Windows updating.  With Windows 10, Server and now Nano server, Windows servicing is dramatically changing.  Currently we're supporting three different versions of Windows 10, and we're still wrapping our heads around how to manage business deployments and rebooting just when we want systems to reboot.

I'm also talking about Updating the Internet of things.  Which in addition to discussing how to patch things that are unpatchable, it will also be talking about risk assessments/isolation and other ways to proactively plan to keep these things safe because... trust me... you won't be able to patch all of these things.  So the best way to protect and defend is plan on the incident ahead of time.

ITDC: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your sessions?

Susan: My goal in both is to give you resources and ways to protect your systems better.  Patching is ultimately one of the key ways to keep your systems protected from threats, viruses, intrusions and ransomware.  So ensuring you can patch as best as you can is key for protecting your firm's assets.  But I'm also a realist to know that we won't be able to always patch or we'll have zero days.  So planning your network ahead of time to provide you with ways to NOT patch is key as well.

ITDC: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT/Dev Connections?

Susan: The topics are what you (the IT pro) want to hear about.  It's not a conference about information the vendors think you need, it's about what YOU want to hear about.

ITDC: What is the one key technology you believe is changing the technology industry right now?

Susan: While the obvious answer is cloud, the bigger push is the emphasis on subscription technology in general.

ITDC: Assuming attendees want to know, what’s your favorite, non-technical hobby or pastime? What’s one thing that totally irks you.

Susan: Favorite non technical hobby is gardening, to which I introduce some technology (Rachio sprinkler, Parrot plant minder, Myplantlink water monitor).  My biggest irk right now is just trying to figure out where SMB technology is heading.  I'm not feeling the love from vendors and/or there is a lot of confusion or lack of scaling down the information and solutions.
