This speaker highlight is Anthony Nocentino.
Anthony's IT/Dev Connection session:
Recently, we asked Anthony to give us a little information about himself. Here's what he shared:
ITDC: Give us a brief introduction to you.
Anthony: Anthony I’m the founder of Centino Systems. As an Enterprise Architect I work with clients to find right technology for their business, designing and deploying it, providing expertise on system performance and architecture. Creating well-designed, maintainable SQL Server and Linux based systems that enable clients to collect meaningful data that they can act upon. Anthony has a Bachelors and Masters in Computer Science and is working towards a Ph.D. focusing on high performance/low latency data access algorithms on solid state disks. Anthony has a unique blend of academic and professional experience leveraged to help customers solve their hardest IT problems. You can find me on Twitter @nocentino and on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/nocentino
ITDC: Describe the session you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.
Anthony: My session is: “Designing High Availability Database Systems using AlwaysOn Availability Groups" When deploying Availability Groups as part of your High Availability/Disaster Recovery strategy the majority of the work is in the planning…this session is modeled after our onsite design session experiences with customers. This session will walk you through that process where we introduce the core design components of a successful Availability Group deployment.
ITDC: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your session?
Anthony: In “Designing High Availability Database Systems using AlwaysOn Availability Groups” I want the attendee to understand the need for upfront design, working out the detailed before we start deployment! This session will cover the core components of AG planning! We’ll cover topics such as setting recovery objectives, replica placement, failover requirements, synchronization models, quorum, backup and recovery and monitoring.
ITDC: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT/Dev Connections?
Anthony: This will be my first large IT conference as a speaker, I’ve done several academic and smaller IT events before...so I’m excited to share my professional experiences with a larger group. I’m looking forward to some great conversations with both attendees and the other speakers.
ITDC: What is the one key technology you believe is changing the technology industry right now?
Anthony: You’re asking me to pick ONE?! :) Well here’s two.
I think solid state disks are a TITANIC innovation. As we see them in more and more customer implementations this is really having a positive impact on how fast data is accessed and delivered to users. Going from milliseconds to microseconds is HUGE, it’s not often you can increase the performance of your system by an order of magnitude.
Next, software development practices. I've really seen an acceleration in how fast software is being developed and released…what this boils down to is we’re getting more features and increases in innovation. Companies are really focusing on adding value to their products and getting that to their customers as fast as they can.
ITDC: Assuming attendees want to know, what’s your favorite, non-technical hobby or pastime? What’s one thing that totally irks you.
Anthony: Food. I love cooking and eating!
One thing that totally irks me…politics at work. I’m an engineer, I work with data and facts. Let’s keep be square with each other and focus on solving technology problems together. :)
