How can I defer the application of monthly updates for Windows via Group Policy

Q. How can I defer the application of monthly updates with Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 via Group Policy?

A. It is possible to delay the application of quality updates (the monthly cumulative update) for up to 30 days via policy:

  1. Open the Group Policy Object that you will be applying to computers

  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Windows Update - Defer Windows Updates

  3. Double click Select when Quality Updates are received

  4. Set to Enabled

  5. Select the delay in days for receiving then click OK
