DotNetNuke has announced a licensing agreement with 51Degrees.mobi, which will integrate the 51Degrees.mobi Device Description Repository (DDR) into all editions of DotNetNuke 6. With this licensing agreement, the DDR will replace the WURFL database, which was used in the DotNetNuke 6.1 release. DotNetNuke users can access the DDR for free to help simplify their mobile website development on the platform.

The DDR provides users with a comprehensive database of current mobile device profiles and includes device manufacturers' specifications and usage information. In addition, the DDR contains information on several different devices, including smartphones, tablets, eBook readers, game consoles, and more.

"With mobile device usage expected to eclipse traditional desktop usage by 2015, companies are looking for ways to adapt and to provide personalized, relevant user experiences to site visitors, regardless of the device they are using," said Shaun Walker, co-founder and chief technology officer of DotNetNuke. "We are excited to be able to partner with 51Degrees.mobi to provide these critical mobile capabilities into our platform."

DotNetNuke Community Edition users have access to the 51Degrees.mobi Lite Data Edition, and DotNetNuke Professional Edition and DotNetNuke Enterprise Edition customers will have access to the Premium Data Edition. Users can upgrade to the Premium Data Edition, which is available in the DotNetNuke Store. The Premium Data Edition includes detailed information about devices, such as screen size, input methods, OS, browser, and hardware specifics.
