Q. Do the new maximum VM sizes in Windows Server 2016 apply to Generation 1 and Generation 2 VMs?

A. No. The new 240 vCPUs and 12 TB of memory apply only to Generation 2 VMs. The 2012 R2 limits of 64 vCPUs and 1 TB of RAM still apply to Generation 1 VMs in Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V.
