Create a VM in Hyper-V Running on Windows 8

Q: What are the steps to creating a virtual machine (VM) on Windows 8 Hyper-V?

A: After the Hyper-V feature is enabled on a Windows 8 machine, the usage and configuration is the same as for a server running Hyper-V. Hyper-V Manager will be installed and available, which should be launched. You should then create a virtual switch, create VMs, and install OSs into the VMs.

There is nothing special about the Windows 8 Hyper-V management, and the same processes you use for Hyper-V on a server can be used. I walk through some of the fundamentals in my article "Getting Started with Window Server 2012 Hyper-V," which offers a good starting point.

Remember, to enable Hyper-V on Windows 8, use the Programs and Features control panel applet, select Turn Windows features on or off, and choose the check box for the Hyper-V feature.
