AWS to Azure Migrations Included in Today's Hybrid Cloud Updates from Microsoft

Microsoft continues its march toward Cloud dominance. It's hard to remember a week that has gone by where significant Cloud news from the company hasn't surfaced, only to be drowned-out by bigger news like company layoffs, restructuring, and new Builds of Windows 10. The Cloud, though, continues to be the one piece of the Microsoft restructuring story that it believes to be its most important chapter. So, development continues to move the peg further and further up the board.

Today Microsoft is announcing some feature enhancements and some products coming out of preview.

Here's what's new today…

  • Linux Remote Directory Memory Access (RDMA): With this update, you can now use Windows or Linux to reap the benefits of RDMA.

  • Azure Batch General Availability: Azure Batch is a service-combining technology from the Green Button acquisition with the power of Azure and provides the ability to execute large-scale, compute intensive work in Azure.

  • High Performance Computing Pack (HPC) Linux 2012 R2 Update 2: HPC Pack 2012 R2 Update 2 is now available and will include support for Linux Virtual Machines.

  • General Availability of new heterogeneous workload support for Azure Site Recovery: This GA introduces new back-up and migration functionality which includes Amazon Web Services to Azure migration. It also now offers support for recovery for physical and VMware VMs.

  • Operations Management Suite (OMS) System Center add-on: The OMS add-on provides System Center customers access to the full suite of OMS solutions.
