Server for Network Information Services (NIS), included in Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX, is installed, but when you open the properties for users, groups, or computers in the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC (Microsoft Management Console) snap-in, the UNIX Attributes tab is missing.

This problem behavior will occur if the computer that is running Active Directory Users and Computers does not have Server for NIS installed, or a problem with the registration of the Nisprop.dll library prevents the tab from appearing.

NOTE: If you are using Windows Server 2003 R2 Identity Management for UNIX, run Idmu.exe from the Admin folder on the second Windows Server 2003 R2 CD to install the UNIX Attributes tab.

To fix this problem, install Server for NIS on the computer that is running the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in, if it is not installed. If it was installed, reregister the Nisprop.dll library:

1. Make sure that no instances of Mmc.exe are running, using Task Manager. If you are logged on to a Terminal Server, check the Show processes from all users box.

2. Copy the Nisprop.dll file from the NIS subfolder in your Services for UNIX installation source to the %SFUDIR% folder on the computer that runs the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.

3. Open a CMD.EXE window.

4. Type regsvr32 /u /s %SFUDIR%isprop.dll and press Enter.

5. Type regsvr32 /s %SFUDIR%isprop.dll and press Enter.
