TubeCast Update Puts it Ahead of the Curve
TubeCast updates are coming quick and regular, making it the best YouTube app for Windows.
April 13, 2015
A few weeks ago I highlighted a pretty nifty YouTube app for Windows 8.1 called TubeCast Pro. I've had experience with just about every proposed YouTube app in the Windows Store on a quest to find the best one. When I'm stuck inside, running on the treadmill, I stream old boxing matches from YouTube to pass the time. For me, there's nothing like a good boxing match to keep me interested and make me forget how much I abhor the treadmill. You'd be surprised how many of these YouTube provides.
So, a good YouTube is essential. I've been down the road many times, with many different YouTube apps, but eventually had to just settle on streaming from the YouTube site due to minor, but detrimental, bugs here and there. But, I'm a die hard. I'll give most any app a try.
TubeCast is a great app. It did have a bug to start with, where it wouldn't observe Windows screen timeout settings, but that was fixed with the first update.
Today a new update is available, making TubeCast even more essential. Per the developer (@poppyto), this latest update brings the following enhancements:
100% YouTube API version 3
Support for latest Chromecast firmware
Additionally, TubeCast supports not just streaming to the local screen, but also over the air to a DLNA Device such as a SmartTV, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and XBMC.
TubeCast is a universal app, meaning it's available for both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone.
