Microsoft issued a nice little update to the desktop version of its SkyDrive application for Windows, adding improved performance, reliability, and compatibility. But the new application also integrates better with the Windows desktop and provides a revised look and feel.
You can download the new version from the SkyDrive web site.
“Today, many SkyDrive users may notice an automatic update to SkyDrive for Windows (Version 16.4.6003.0710),” Microsoft’s Mike Torres writes in a post to the Inside SkyDrive, Hotmail, and Messenger blog. “Most of the changes in this update aren't really visible. Millions of people depend on SkyDrive to automatically sync files, so as with most updates, this one improves the performance, reliability, and compatibility of SkyDrive.”
Among the changes are…
- A cute new SkyDrive tray icon that more closely mimics the all-white tray icons in Windows 7 and 8.
- A new, Metro-like status window that appears when you click the tray icon.
- New options in the tray icon’s context menu for “View sync problems” and “Help, Report a problem.”
And, as an added bonus, Microsoft has unveiled the new SkyDrive logo, which we’ll be seeing a lot more in the months ahead.
Enjoy!
