Remote Desktop Connection Client Versions that Work with Windows Server 2012

Q: What versions of the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client work with Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Services?

A: Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 use version 8 of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Older RDC clients that don't support RDP 8.0 can still connect to Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 but they can't take advantage of new RDP 8.0 features such as user experience and WAN optimization improvements. For the best experience, use RDC 8, which is part of Windows 8 and will also be available as an update for Windows 7 at some point in the future, post-GA of Windows Server 2012.
