Q: How can I install just the Windows Server Update Services console to a machine?

Here's how to install the WSUS console.

A: Within the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) installer is the console. It's used to manage WSUS, and it also is required by some other management solutions, for example System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012. To install just the console, perform the following:

  1. After it's downloaded, extract the installation file using this command:

D:TempWSUS30-KB972455-x64.exe /x

You will be prompted for an extraction folder. 

To install just the console, use this command:

WusSetup.exe /q CONSOLE_INSTALL=1
