JSI Tip 8551. Your Windows Server 2003 Pagefile size has been reduced?

After restarting from a fatal error, you notice that  C:PageFile.SYS has been reduced in size.

This behavior will occur if you have a memory dump configured, and there is not enough free space on the boot drive to contain a temporary file that is equal in size to the physical memory installed in your server. In this scenario, the space is taken from the paging file on the boot drive.

NOTE: Even if you have the memory dump location set to another drive, a temporary file on the boot drive is needed.

NOTE: The Savedump.exe process read the TempDestination Value Name from the volatile HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCrashControlMachineCrash key and copies the temporary dump file to the final location. The default is %SystemRoot%MEMORY.DMP.
