When you attempt to configure FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on a Windows Server 2003-based Web page, you receive:

Error 5 opening registry key "SOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsWeb Server ExtensionsSecureLMW3SVC.

This behavior may occur if the SharePoint Administration site is using an improper context when running in the MSSharePointAppPool application pool. By default, the MSSharePointAppPool application pool runs in the Local System context.

To fix this problem:

1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

2. Expand Application Pools.

3. Right-click MSSharePointAppPool and press Properties.

4. Select the Identity tab.

5. Change the Identity to Local System.

6. Press OK until all IIS Manager windows are closed.

7. Stop and restart all the IIS services.
