Install Web Portal for System Center 2012 Service Manager

Q: Why can't I install the web portal for System Center Service Manager 2012 SP1 on Windows Server 2012?

A: System Center 2012 SP1 introduced support for Windows Server 2012, enabling a full deployment of System Center 2012 on that OS. However, the web portal for Service Manager currently has a problem because of the following:

  • Service Manager 2012 SP1 web portal uses SharePoint 2010.

  • SharePoint 2010 is not supported on Windows Server 2012.

  • SharePoint 2013 is supported on Windows Server 2012.

  • Service Manager 2012 SP1 web portal does not support SharePoint 2013.

While an update for SharePoint 2010 to make it supported for Windows Server 2012 is expected, the only solution currently is to create a Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual machine (VM) for the sole purpose of running SharePoint 2010 and the Service Manager 2012 SP1 web portal.
