Microsoft will release the first beta of Windows NT 5.0 in September, atthe company's Professional Developer's Conference. The final release ofWindows NT 5.0 is expected in mid-1998 but many of the technologies fromNT 5.0 are trickling out now. The Microsoft Management Console, for example, will provide a one-stop system management interface and it'savailable now in the IIS 4.0 beta. Microsoft Transaction Server and Certification Server, also available now, will be integral parts of theupcoming operating system. Integrating all of these features into theoperating system is supposed to make it easier to manage and use.

Next week at its "Windows Platform Briefing," Microsoft will once againlay out a road map for future operating systems development
