At Build today, Microsoft announced to the developer crowd that Windows 8.1 Update 1 would be made available today through MSDN, but never a single mention was made about TechNet subscribers also getting the special surprise. But, there it is.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 Also Released to *gasp* Microsoft TechNet

Despite Microsoft sticking a long pitchfork into its TechNet subscriber customers in July 2013 and then twisting and twisting until said pitchfork could produce no more pain, the company has released the Windows 8.1 Update 1 download to TechNet today.

At Build today, Microsoft announced to the developer crowd that Windows 8.1 Update 1 would be made available today through MSDN, but never a single mention was made about TechNet subscribers also getting the special surprise. But, there it is.

If you have forgotten by now (not many have), Microsoft lobbed an ICBM straight through the heart of IT Pros last year by announcing to end a very popular, 15 year program. Sales were of TechNet subscriptions were discontinued in August 2013. So between July and the end of August, there was a brief time when customers were given the chance to either purchase a new subscription or renew an existing one. Many took advantage of it, and those are the ones burning the download wires this afternoon.
