Here's a first look at the next chapter in progress for Windows 8.1 Book: Music. This chapter discusses the Xbox Music app, and will be used as the basis for the next update to Paul Thurrott's Xbox Music as well.

Unlike the Xbox Video chapter, this one isn't all that straightforward. When I wrote the Xbox Music book I decided to assume that anyone reading it would be buying into the Xbox entertainment ecosystem and would thus have an Xbox Music Pass; this subscription is required for many non-Windows-based activities. But the situation in Windows 8.1 is quite different: Xbox Music is really feature-packed even without an Xbox Music Pass, so this chapter does not assume you have such a subscription.

Between that change and the massive UI change that this app has undergone since the initial release of Windows 8, I decided to rewrite it from scratch and, hopefully, make it shorter and simpler than the similar content in current versions of Paul Thurrott's Xbox Music.

This version of the chapter is probably 1/2 to 2/3 complete and include several completed and partially completed sections. But there's a lot left to write as well.

With this submission, the full book document has exceeded one hundred pages for the first time.

Feedback is always appreciated. More soon.
